We've had some great food in Venezia -we forgot to photograph most of it :) The most memorable being Bigoli in salsa (wholemeal spaghetti with anchovy salsa) and Ravioli con funghi porcini (porcini & ricotta ravioli with a salsa made with porcini mushrooms) which Rob's cousin Rosaria made -they were both absolutely delicious and both my favourite types of pasta.
We've tried to eat local specialties and shared a plate of seafood cichetti at an osteria in San Vio, Dorsoduro -Osteria del Vecio Forner a few days ago. The deep fried seafood was in a very light, non- greasy batter and was delicious as was the white polenta and insalata caprese that we also had.
The tramezzini and caffe at La Toletta in Via Dorsoduro 1191 are delicious and there is an amazing variety, they also have panini:
In Cannaregio we tried Pasta fagioli and Seppie Veneziana, carciofi and Insalate miste which were ok and the restaurant -Trattoria all' Antica Mola was a welcome break from the rain.
Our favourite pasticceria in Venezia so far is Pasticceria Tonolo which is probably a bad thing as it is about five doors away from us and each day we have been starting the day with a typical Italian breakfast -coffee and a pastry. We're not quite working our way through their cakes -they have so many that we'd have to be here for about a year :) Everything that we have tried so far has been great -bigne filled with chocolate cream would have to be the best. The coffee is also brilliant. I think that i might be starting to find the 11 kgs that I lost before we left :) We walk for about 5 or so hours each day so hopefully I won't put back too much.
Ogni mattina: un caffe' e un caffe' macchiato
We went to the markets at the Rialto today and bought some prawns and carciofi -just the bases and garlic etc. We're going to Treviso tomorrow and I'm hoping to do cook them when we get back with some pasta.
