Artist Rachele Del Nevo

On Friday we came across Rachele Del Nevo, an artist who draws on cardboard from recycled cartons. Her drawings have a Roman flavour and she uses the designs/printing on the cardboard to influence her work.  Some are thought provoking. I really love her drawings  and we've bought a few. I'd love a wall full of them.

Rachele takes her work with her on her bike. She has a blog :

Rachele De Nevo and a recently sold drawing of the Fontana di Trevi -if only it could have fitted in one of our suitcases :(

Make sure that you check out her blog which has some examples of her work. If you are in Rome you can see Rachele with her bike and some of her current work at the Tazza d'Oro end of Piazza della Rotonda - home of the Pantheon. As well as larger pieces, she has some smaller ones which are perfect for gifts for friends as souvenirs of Rome. Much better than the mountain of plastic souvenirs in shops all around the Pantheon.

Piazza della Rotonda

The evening light is beautiful in Rome in autumn, a different blue from Australian evening skies. The Pantheon and Piazza della Rotonda are always magical at night -even with tourists buzzing around.

Refreshing our Roman memories

Rob went for a run early in the morning and took some photos at the end when it was light. Rome is particularly beautiful at dawn when it is very quiet.

Later on we just walked around looking at favourite places

The first glimpse of the Pantheon is always special

Before the tourist hordes descend -the souvenir sellers are already there

Another tourist took this for us -at leat we stopped to look at the Forum -there were heaps of people who had a photo taken and rushed off to the next place

Autumn in Rome

The weather has been fairly mild in  Rome and while deciduous trees in the north of Italy have nearly all lost their leaves, those in Roma still have strong autumn colours.  The guys selling roasted chestnuts (castagne)  finally have buyers as the colder weather sets in.

The Piazza Navona Christmas markets are in full swing selling decorations and Christmas treats as well as the usual traveling sideshow stalls.  Yesterday we had lunch in Campo dei Fiori -said hi for you Ness :)

Today we went to the shopping outlet centre at Castel Romana - we were a little underwhelmed.  We had hoped to find gifts for our family but no such luck :(

The fine weather will be around for a few more days so we're making the most of it.
A film set in Piazza della Rotonda

I know that I'm short, but I look like an ant compared to the columns of the Pantheon

Not many tourists around after the weekend, yay!

A busker in Campo de' Fiori -he could play quite well

Usually Virginia creeper hangs down from the arch across Via Giulia creating a curtain -it was sad to see that it had been removed

Ciambella seller in Piazza Navona. The ciambelle are huge, the size of dinner plates and very thick, it's always surprising to see people eating them
